Chart memorization fails because Morse at real speed does not sound like the visual pattern. The five mistakes that kill most beginners

Memorizing the chart first. Charts train eyes, not ears. Two weeks of chart study has to be un-learned before real audio drills work. Look at the chart on day one to see what Morse looks like structurally, then close it and start audio drills. Reopen only to check letters you missed.
